In its intense nationalism, mass appeal, and dictatorial rule, Nazism shared many elements with Italian fascism. However, Nazism was far more extreme.
In almost every respect it was an anti-intellectual & atheoretical movement, emphasizing the will of the charismatic dictator as the sole source of inspiration.
That only this dictator could lead the people & a nation; his vision of annihilation of all enemies of the AryanVolk as the one and only goal of Nazi policy.
I was seeing a series of brilliantly made episodes on 'World War II' on Netflix, narrated by a series of historians & authors representing a wide spectrum.
Despite the events being narrated almost 75 + years ago, the flashbacks of that dreadful era show the remarkable 'efficiency' of the Nazi propaganda & displays. What's striking is the complete confidence & certainty in their set of beliefs about Aryan supremacy, their views about Jews, superiority of their nation in everything
Their war plans never seem to have a Plan B or C. It's chilling how people will suspend their judgement when even a mad leader says what they want to hear.
The war ends, the myths are shattered, the sinister aspertions on the 'other' races are shown to be blatant lies which would not be accepted by a school kid today.
In the end, ignorance being relative, is the only constant, ahead of knowledge which is seen to be too flimsy a tool to hold on to in the path to salvation.
